Allegri reacts to first Arthur display since Arsenal talks collapsed

Max Allegri has claimed that Arthur has ‘extraordinary technical abilities’ after his latest Juventus performance, as – in comments that will certainly catch the eye of Arsenal fans.

Arthur looked to be the name at the top of the list as Arsenal tried to sign a midfielder in the January transfer window. In fact, it appeared at one stage that a deal was incredibly close.

Reports claimed that Edu agreed an 18-month loan for the Brazilian. The deal would have come with a £33.4 million option to buy.

However, the Arsenal board decided against a move when Edu presented the offer to them. They were reportedly reluctant to sign Arthur on the longer loan.

It proved to be a frustrating window for the Gunners. They failed to sign a midfielder. And Mikel Arteta is probably going to require some luck to navigate the rest of the campaign.

Interestingly, Arthur completed 90 minutes in Serie A for the first time this season at the weekend. He helped Juve beat Hellas Verona.

And Allegri has now suggested that he was extremely impressed by the 25-year-old a couple of days ago.

“Arthur is improving, he played very well on Sunday,” he said, .

“He’s like a child, always running behind the ball. Sometimes he has to handle himself a little bit more, but he put in a great performance against Hellas Verona. He has extraordinary technical abilities.”

Arsenal must fear being made to rue Arthur decision when deal was provisionally agreed

Arsenal’s decision seemed a strange one.

You could understand their reluctance to agree to an obligation to buy Arthur. He has not lived up to expectations for the likes of Barcelona and Juventus.

But the Old Lady were seemingly open to an option to buy. So Arsenal were in a strong position.

Of course, one performance is not going to make the Gunners hierarchy rue their decision. However, Arthur has enjoyed a decent run in the side. And with Rodrigo Bentancur leaving, he is now higher in the pecking order.

If Arthur now thrives, Arsenal fans will wonder why the club blocked the loan move.
