Allardyce comments on £10m-rated star, amid reported Leeds, West Ham and Spurs interest
Sam Allardyce has given an update on the future of West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone amid reports that Leeds United, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in luring the English goalkeeper away from the Baggies.
Johnstone, 28, has impressed for West Brom this season despite the Baggies sitting in 19th place – some way off safety and looking more than likely to go down, despite back-to-back wins over Chelsea and then Southampton, scoring eight goals.
Called up by England last month, Johnstone has kept six clean sheets in 30 Premier League games but despite conceding 57 goals – his performances have caught the eye. four English clubs want to sign the £10million-rated man this summer.
Leeds, West Ham and Tottenham are all interested – while Manchester United want to sign Johnstone, the team that sold Johnstone to West Brom. Allardyce stated that the Baggies will do everything they can to keep the goalkeeper at the Hawthorns.

“We can only discuss that when we have secured our position as a Premier League club,” Allardyce told the “That would mean discussion from the hierarchy at the club and look at what they can do with Sam’s contract.
“They will try to persuade him to stay, but as usual, business is business. Whatever happens can only be decided then, but I think the club would do their very best to keep him.”
TBR’s view – At just £10m, Johnstone is a no brainer for PL clubs
But which club needs him most? Leeds have Illan Meslier in goal and he is unlikely to be dislodged by Marcelo Bielsa. That means, then, that Johnstone is probably not high on the priority list for Leeds. Manchester United have two top goalkeepers.
David De Gea and Dean Henderson have both impressed at times throughout the season. So, West Ham and Tottenham would be best suited for Johnstone. Lukasz Fabianski is now 36 and a replacement is required at the London Stadium.
Selling Hugo Lloris at Tottenham is a possibility with Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG being linked.
