Alisson shares behind-the-scenes joke with Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita

that he shared a joke with Reds star Naby Keita after the midfielder has returned to action after a spell on the sidelines through injury – while also underlining the importance of getting players fit again.

It has been well-documented that Liverpool have suffered somewhat of a centre-back crisis this season, with Virgil van Dijk being sidelined with a knee injury throughout the season. Joel Matip and Fabinho have both been suffering through injury.

But Liverpool are also lacking in options in midfield. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continues to be a long-term absentee while Thiago remains injured. The return of Keita in midfield, then, is crucial as Liverpool look to get back to their best.

Alisson also spent time on the sidelines this season but has since returned, replacing Adrian who came in for criticism during his time between the sticks. The goalkeeper shared a joke he had with Keita, upon the African’s return to fitness.

“As I said, we are not a team of only one player. The last weeks have been difficult times because we have lost some important players in our team, but now we have many coming back as well,”

“We need everybody fit. Naby coming back as well, I told him: ‘Holidays are off now for you, Naby!’ It’s good to have the boys back,” the Brazilian goalkeeper continued, when discussing Keita’s return from injury.

TBR’s view – Should Keita start against Manchester City?

The former RB Leipzig midfielder could well be within a chance of starting, after coming on for the best part of half an hour against Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday night. But on Sunday, should the £48million () ace start?

Curtis Jones has been excellent, as has Xherdan Shaqiri, while Gini Wijnaldum remains fit. With Jordan Henderson expected to sit at the base of the midfield Keita has a chance of starring – but surely Jones and Wijnaldum will get the nod?
