Alisson names the ‘most important’ player in the Liverpool team – it’s not Van Dijk or a forward
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has claimed that Fabinho is the most important player in the Reds team, as well as for Brazil, in conversation with
The 27-year-old midfielder has been at Liverpool since 2018, when he joined from Monaco in a reported £39million deal.
In that time, Fabinho has become one of the Reds’ most important players, clocking up 90 competitive appearances and helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to glory on several fronts.

Playing as a defensive midfielder, he has helped Liverpool win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League during the last 18 months.
And following Virgil van Dijk’s long-term injury, Fabinho stepped in as an emergency centre-back and did superbly before he, too, was unfortunately sidelined.
According to the , the Reds are hopeful that Fabinho will be back by the time the Premier League resumes and Leicester come to town.
Alisson highlighted his compatriot’s versatility and talents as the reasons why he’s, in his eyes, the most important player for club and country.
“I believe that Fabinho is the most important player for both the club and the national team,” the Liverpool goalkeeper told .
“He is a very important player wherever he is, he always proves his worth on the pitch.
“He had been playing for Van Dijk and, unfortunately, with his injury he has been missing for Brazil too.
“He can play as a number six, as a defender, he was a wide player in the past and these characteristics bring even more value to him.”

While Van Dijk is Liverpool’s rock at the back and the attacking trident of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah is one of the best in the world, Fabinho’s role in helping the Reds to glory should rightly be recognised, as Alisson is doing.
With Liverpool currently in the midst of a defensive crisis, he’ll hopefully be back by next weekend and help shore up the defence as the Reds look to claw their way back to the top of the Premier League table.
