Alexander Isak’s latest contract demand has left Newcastle United in shock

TBR Football understands that Alexander Isak is asking for a deal close to £300,000-a-week, which has shocked Newcastle United.

Newcastle United opened talks with Isak earlier this summer as they acknowledged that their prized asset is on a contract not befitting his standing.

Currently, the Swede is some way from being their top earner, which is currently Bruno Guimaraes on over £150,000-a-week.

As TBR Football has previously revealed, Newcastle are ready to make Isak the highest-paid player in their history, breaking their current wage structure.

Exclusive: Newcastle United will struggle to match Alexander Isak’s contract demand

Newcastle have been looking at closer to £200,000-a-week, but Alexander Isak’s recent demands look well beyond what the club are looking to facilitate, sources have told Graeme Bailey, chief correspondent at TBR Football.

Isak, who Liverpool approached to sign earlier this month, saw talks over a new deal shelved last summer when Anthony Gordon was handed a new deal, and TBR Football understands that did not go down too well within his camp.

However, Isak has shown a willingness to discuss fresh terms, although his people are insistent that he needs to be recognised as one of Europe’s top strikers.

The striker’s current deal is due to expire in 2028, which means that there isn’t a great deal of pressure on the Magpies to sort a new one at this moment in time.

Isak’s agent recently spoke to Saudi Arabian newspaper , saying: “We are already studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player.”

‘The next step’ could refer to a transfer away, him staying for another season at St James’ Park or even committing to a new contract.

Liverpool’s deal for Hugo Ekitike also takes the pressure off them somewhat, with the Reds having been one of the main contenders to sign the 25-year-old.

Meanwhile, Arsenal backed away from a deal for Isak earlier this summer, given interest from elsewhere and the striker’s price tag. The Gunners are expected to sign Viktor Gyokeres instead.

The Saudi Pro League would love to bring him to the Middle East, but the striker has no interest in such a move at this stage of his career.

Sources: Newcastle remain adamant Alexander Isak won’t be sold

Despite the significant gap in valuation over a new deal, TBR Football can confirm that Newcastle remain adamant that Isak won’t be sold this summer.

The Tyneside club remain on the hunt to sign a partner for the Swedish international, who can either play alongside him or allow him a chance to rest in certain games.

Following the departure of Callum Wilson, Eddie Howe’s squad needs another number nine.

TBR Football has learned that Yoane Wissa remains a target for Newcastle, and talks with Brentford over a deal have already started.

The Bees are believed to be asking for £50 million for Wissa, although the Congolese striker is expected to move for closer to £40 million.
