Alex Mowatt serves as a warning to Leeds United regarding Jack Clarke transfer interest
This summer might have Leeds United making a tough decision over winger Jack Clarke. The 17-year-old talent broke through to the first-team at Elland Road last season with aplomb and has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.
Tottenham appear to be the leading candidates. Leeds want £20 million for the player before they even consider selling him. that Tottenham value him in the £12 million region.
Leeds are of course reluctant to lose a top talent but also know how quickly a player’s stock can fall at such a young age.
Just take Alex Mowatt for example.
Mowatt broke onto the scene in 2013 and the youngster looked like being a future Leeds star. In 2014-15 he was the club’s player of the year. That summer
Leeds managed to keep Mowatt but his form dipped dramatically. By 2017 he was not in Garry Monk’s first-team picture. With his contract expiring, he was sold to Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals Barnsley for a cut-price fee,
He has since found form again with The Tykes and Leeds will not relish facing him in the Championship next season. However, Leeds clearly missed the high point of his market value in 2015.
Clarke could easily go on to be worth £30-40 million if he can develop his precocious talent. But, like Mowatt, this might be the best time to sell the player.
Leeds need to decide whether or not Clarke is the real deal. If he is, then no offer should be enough to sell him at this point in time. But if tangible doubts exist, maybe Leeds do need to cash in while they can receive the highest amount for their wing wizard.
