Alex Mowatt sends Twitter message to Mallik Wilks after joining Barnsley from Leeds

Alex Mowatt has joked with his new Barnsley teammate Mallik Wilks on following his arrival from Leeds United.

Wilks, 20, has completed a permanent move away from Elland Road and moved to Oakwell on a permanent basis.

The winger was out on loan with Doncaster Rovers impressing last season and has been allowed to depart Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

He had come through the academy with the Whites and was tipped for big things at Leeds, but will now look to continue his progression elsewhere.

Wilks has a familiar face to look out for at Barnsley in the shape of Mowatt, who was previously on the books at Leeds.

The 24-year-old midfielder left for Barnsley back in 2017 and he helped them achieve promotion from League One last season.

Mowatt has sent a message to Wilks on social media and joked about how he used to clean his football boots at Elland Road.

“My boot boy is back. Have them clean for the morning bro. What a guy!”

TBR’s View:

With Barnsley promoted to the Championship last season, Leeds are going to get the chance to potentially line up against two of their former players when they face them.

Mowatt is still fondly remembered from his spell with the Whites and played 125 senior games for the club.

He’s now joined by an exciting talent in Wilks, who does deserve a crack in the Championship after his form last year with Doncaster in League One.

It’s a slight surprise that Leeds haven’t looked to him a try and sold him, but they have fierce competition for places and have just welcomed dazzling winger Helder Costa from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
