Alasdair Gold says Tottenham have another coach who will be a ‘terrific’ manager amid Ryan Mason rumours

Tottenham Hotspur may be about to lose a valued member of their backroom staff.

Indeed, 🌸Ryan Mason is said to be the favourite for the Anderlecht job over in Belgium, and after two caretaker stints at Spurs, Mason♏ is ready to take his first step into full management.

This will be a big blow to Ange Postecoglou’s💛 backroom team as Mason is a very important coach.

However, Postecoglou does still have a talented roster of staff to work with, and according to Alasdair Gold, speaking on Last Word on Spurs, there’s another coach at Tottenham who could go on to do great things.

Alasdair Gold says Tottenham coach could become a top manager

🐓Gold spoke very highly of Matthew Wells as a key member of Postecoglou’s staff.

𒐪Not only did Gold praise Wells as a coach, but he also stated that one day he will become a top manager.

♓Meanwhile, the journalist also noted that Stuart Lewis in the youth set-up is also seen as having a bright future in coaching.

♒“I’d also add to the ones to watch, Matthew Wells. He’s going to be a terrific manager at some point, he’s going to go on to do something. Stuart Lewis who does the U18s as well, he’s another terrific up and coming coach as well,” Gold said.

Who is Matthew Wells?

ꦦTottenham fans would be forgiven for not knowing much about Matthew Wells. After all, he’s not the most prominent figure at Spurs.

Interestingly, this is the coach’s second stint at Spurs. The 36-year-old was a part of the Spurs set-up in the mid-2010s under Mauricio Pochettino, but 𝕴Wells would eventually leave Spurs to join Scott Parker at Fulham as his assistant manager.

ꦏWells would then follow Parker to both Bournemouth and Club Brugge, before returning to Spurs in 2023 after the departure of Antonio Conte.

💯Wells was kept on once Postecoglou arrived, and since then he has been a key member of the Australian’s coaching staff.

Wells has been given some interesting tasks at Tottenham as a coach. Intriguingly, ꦏWells was tasked with working individually with Pedro Porroꦛ last season, and that one-to-one work led to an upturn in form.

ꦆRyan Mason may be set to fly the nest and make a step into management in the coming days, but don’t be surprised if Wells isn’t too far behind him.
