Alasdair Gold says Tottenham have an exciting young player who has been ‘impressing everyone’

Tottenham Hotspur have spent their money very wisely since Ange Postecoglou came to the club, and its starting to show on the pitch.

The Lilywhites finished just outside the Champions League spots last season which isn’t a bad achievement for Ange Postecoglou in what was his first season in charge.

However, Spurs fancied themselves to challenge for the title at one point and looked nailed on for a Champions League place, so it wasn’t all smiles.

Now, Spurs sit on a disappointing four points after three games and a difficult North London derby up next against title challengers Arsenal.

It’s been the likes of Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall that have had an influence on proceedings out of the summer signings so far, with Dominic Solanke anxiously waiting to see if he’ll be fit enough to feature against the Gunners this weekend.

Interestingly, a different youngster has been catching the attention of Alasdair Gold recently…

Alasdair Gold says Tottenham have an exciting young star who’s been ‘impressive everyone’

Mikey Moore is a name that Tottenham fans will be hearing a lot this season, with the Europa League providing Ange with the chance to mix things up and rest players.

There’s another name that’s been doing the rounds behind the scenes at Spurs, according to Alasdair Gold.

Speaking on the Gold & Guest podcast via YouTube, Gold has been speaking about George Abbott.

“George Abbott has played a couple of games now for Notts County and made his first start there the other day. He’s very much impressing everyone there.

“He’s only 19 years old, but he’s a Spurs under-21 skipper and very versatile. He can play pretty much anywhere across your midfield or back line.

“Towards the end of last season, I was told to keep an eye on George Abbott because he’s developed quicker than anyone expected.”

How has George Abbott been performing at Notts County?

George Abbott made his first senior start for Notts County against Accrington Stanley in League Two on Saturday.

Notts County’s manager Stuart Maynard had this to say.

“He’s got a very bright future. If you see his energy… his game understanding on the ball to come and play here today in front of probably just under 11,000 as your home debut, as a young lad, and to perform… he played like a mature player.

The way he handled the ball, the way he passed the ball, the way he presses and the way he understands the positions to pick up to go and press.

“It’s incredible for such a young lad and we’re very lucky to have him.”
