Alasdair Gold says Spurs player yet to make debut will be preparing ‘more than normal’ for NLD
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Fraser Forster will be “preparing that little bit more than normal” ahead of the North London derby.
This is according to Alasdair Gold, who spoke about Spurs’ international break plans in his latest .
Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris won’t be playing for France over the coming week due to a thigh injury.
The Spurs and Bleus legend initially made the squad and was present at their Clairefontaine base on Monday.
However, the team doctor diagnosed a small injury to Lloris’ right thigh, which led to his withdrawal.
A statement on France’s official website : ‘Present Monday morning at the National Football Center in Clairefontaine, Hugo Lloris consulted Dr. Franck Le Gall.
‘A small injury to the right thigh has been diagnosed to the Tottenham goalkeeper.
‘He is therefore unavailable for the two matches against Austria on Thursday… and in Denmark on Sunday.
‘To replace him, Didier Deschamps called on Alban Lafont. The Nantes goalkeeper is expected during the day at Clairefontaine.’
‘Spurs are remaining tight-lipped’
The World Cup winner will return to Tottenham and look to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.
Following last Saturday’s 6-2 win over Leicester, Spurs will return to Premier League action at Arsenal on October 1.
And due to Lloris’ injury, Gold speculated that Forster will work harder than normal in case he needs to be ready for the NLD.
“Forster will subconsciously be preparing that little bit more than normal just in case he does have to deputise for Lloris in the north London derby,” wrote Gold.
“Spurs are remaining tight-lipped on the small thigh injury suffered by the skipper. But that doesn’t particularly mean anything as they will want that level of uncertainty publicly ahead of the north London derby to throw off the opposition.”
Forster joined Tottenham in the summer on a free transfer following his departure from Southampton.
The 34-year-old has made the Spurs bench in every gam.
