Alasdair Gold says 18-year-old Tottenham talent looking ‘excellent’ on set pieces

Tottenham Hotspur are currently on their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, and will soon be in friendly action.

On Saturday morning (11am BST), Spurs will face Vissel Kobe at Tokyo’s Japan National Stadium, hoping to extend their good run.

Tottenham triumphed over Hearts and Queens Park Rangers in Britain ahead of setting off for Japan.

Now, Ange Postecoglou’s charges are set to take on a team that is over halfway through their league season.

On Friday, Tottenham held an open training session in front of thousands of fans, with Alasdair Gold reporting on what he saw.

The football.london journalist noted how one of Spurs’ young talents looked particularly good on set pieces.

Tottenham talent Lucas Bergvall shines on set pieces

The player in question is Lucas Bergvall, who has finally linked up with Tottenham after a deal was agreed with Djurgarden earlier this year.

Gold said the 18-year-old “proved to be a decent set piece taker with a couple of excellent curling efforts, including one that cracked against the crossbar.”

The journalist, writing on , noted how James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Yves Bissouma also did well with their set-piece efforts.

Bergvall will hope for key role for Spurs against Vissel Kobe

Bergvall has looked bright since arriving at Tottenham, with staff and colleagues impressed by how he has been faring so far.

“Bergvall, they think he’s going to be great, it’s as simple as that,” Dean Jones recently said of the Spurs newcomer.

“They think this player will be a star of the future to be honest.

“I don’t know how soon they think that will happen in the Premier League. This is what I’m hearing, everyone is so impressed by his technical abilities.”

Bergvall looked good against QPR last week, but had to make way after just 24 minutes due to injury.

Rob Guest said in a different article on : “Involved in training this week, Bergvall looks a certainty to feature against Vissel Kobe and Postecoglou has a decision to make over whether he starts the youngster or introduces him off the bench.

“Only playing 70 minutes worth of pre-season action so far and not playing on the pitch with all of his Tottenham teammates just yet, giving the midfielder playing time is vital as he looks to develop a good understanding with the rest of the squad.”

While Postecoglou fine-tunes his preparations in Japan and South Korea, the Tottenham hierarchy is busy on the transfer front, with Federico Chiesa said to be one of numerous Spurs targets.
