Alasdair Gold reveals what he knows about Tottenham’s interest in Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a striker this summer may have just landed them at the feet of Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.

It has become glaringly obvious over Tottenham‘s four pre-season friendlies that they are looking likely to begin the new campaign without a natural striker available.

Richarlison is the closest thing to an out and out striker at the club but the Brazilian continues to watch on from the sidelines due to injury.

That was the story of the Brazilian’s 2023/24 campaign with glimmers of promise overshadowed by his regular injury issues.

Ange Postecoglou has a lot of games to contend with in the upcoming season, so having a squad packed with quality is exactly what he is going to need in all positions.

What Alasdair Gold has hears about Dominic Solanke to Tottenham

So far this summer, Dejan Kulusevski has even been seen playing as the number nine at times in the friendlies.

The Swede has shown his versatility under Postecoglou and was able to find the back of the net on Wednesday as the striker.

However, he is by no means an out and out goalscorer which has recently seen Fabrizio Romano share Tottenham’s interest in Dominic Solanke.

But there may be some complications for Tottenham to overcome if Solanke is to find himself playing in north London this season.

According to Alasdair Gold, Tottenham have been long-term admirers of the Bournemouth striker, Solanke.

The Spurs reporter also feels that the 26-year-old could be a great fit for the Postecoglou system.

However, there is one major issue with any deal for Solanke and that is going to be the price needing to be coughed up.

Solanke is homegrown and Bournemouth’s prized asset, the Cherries are not going to allow any club to take him away cheaply this summer.

What Jurgen Klopp has said about Dominic Solanke

There will, naturally, be some doubts over Tottenham’s interest in the Bournemouth striker given his overall record in the Premier League.

Solanke has only netted 29 goals in his 139 Premier League appearances; and 19 of those goals came last season.

The positive is over the 2023/24 campaign he proved what he is capable of doing, but there have to be huge questions over whether Spurs can pay big money for a relatively unproven striker.

“He was probably not the most clinical yet but the talent was obvious. It was the right decision to go to Bournemouth, last season he scored enough goals but this season he is up there with the greatest,” his former manager Jurgen Klopp told in January.

“He is a really talented kid, I’m very happy for him.”
