Alasdair Gold now shares why Antonio Nusa chose a move to Brentford over Tottenham

Journalist Alasdair Gold has now shared why Antonio Nusa has chosen a move to Brentford over Tottenham Hotspur in the coming days.

Spurs were thought to be in the driving seat to sign Nusa after diligently chasing his signature in the last week or so.

Ange Postecoglou was thought to be the perfect manager to unlock the winger’s rich potential, and a loan-back deal which saw Nusa arrive permanently in the summer looked ideal for all parties.

However, it’s now been reported that Brentford have stolen the march on Tottenham, and Nusa will be signing for the West London club instead.

That might surprise a few given how much pull Postecoglou’s project has, and how interested the club seemed to be.

But Tottenham journalist has now been sharing why Nusa made his choice.

Gold took to X just now to explain that Brentford could simply offer Nusa more guaranteed game time in the future.

The journalist also explained the feelings of Nusa’s personal camp, who also preferred a move to Brentford.

Sharing his update on X, Gold said: “Understand Antonio Nusa chose Brentford because he was guaranteed regular starts there.

“Spurs held talks but for a raw but talented teenager not starting regularly for Club Brugge yet, they couldn’t offer such guarantees for next season with their current squad.

“The player and his camp also felt that moving to one of the bigger clubs was too big a step in his development at this point. Very talented youngster though and should reach that level.”

Of course, this will be considered a blow for Tottenham who looked to be in the driving seat to sign one of Europe’s next big talents.

Tottenham could potentially look to sign Nusa from Brentford in the future once he’s made progress, but that would obviously be at a much higher price.

Whilst it will be a blow, Spurs will definitely have a contingency plan, and they don’t necessarily have to react this month.

The club are clearly eyeing players with high potential, something that was always going to be the case under Postecoglou.

However, there may be some frustration among fans that Spurs have now passed, or missed out on moves for Arthur Vermeeren as well as Nusa.

Either way, it seems Tottenham are now pressing on with a bid for a certain Brazilian.
