Alasdair Gold discusses reports that Tottenham could sack Nuno, if Spurs suffer defeat to Villa

Alasdair Gold has responded when asked if Tottenham could sack Nuno Espirito Santo if they lose to Aston Villa –

Nuno looked bereft of ideas as Tottenham suffered a third straight league defeat. A third consecutive game in which Hugo Lloris conceded three.

The body language of individuals was worrying, as was the lack of desire to turn the result around. There are some serious problems at Spurs.

While Spurs did win their first three league games, Jermaine Jenas summed it up – suggesting that the three victories had papered over the cracks.

In fact, Spurs have looked better without Harry Kane in their side this season. Now, Nuno is already facing the sack at Tottenham.

Asked about the reports that he could go if Spurs lose to Villa this weekend, suggested it would take something drastic.

“I think it would have to be an absolutely disastrous display that showed no signs of improvement or promise,” Gold said in a Q & A session.

“For Levy to remove Tottenham’s fourth manager in less than two years would say everything about the club and the decisions made.

“It’s a ludicrous situation. The consequences since those transfer windows with no spending for/in the 2018/19 season has been stark and all too clear.”

Gold on Nuno: Time for Tottenham sack, or does he deserve longer?

Surely, he deserves time. Nuno has probably joined Tottenham at it’s trickiest point in recent history – largely due to the future of Harry Kane.

But Nuno has also had to deal with injuries, players isolating after jetting off to Argentina, qualifying for the ECL and plenty of other obstacles.

Yes, Spurs have spent money, but Nuno has not had much time to actually coach and train a full squad. But they look like they are clueless, currently.

Of course, he deserves more time. He needs the players to buy into his way of thinking. That will take time, but Spurs fans want immediate success.

He deserves time, but the pressure from Spurs fans might not give him that. All eyes on Levy, especially, if Spurs lose or fail to beat Villa this weekend.
