Alasdair Gold claims Tottenham are interested in 22-goal striker who’s been compared to Kane

Alasdair Gold has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have “a little bit of interest” in Ben Brereton Diaz.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is reportedly on the lookout for reinforcements up front this summer.

While Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world, he can’t be the only senior centre-forward at the club.

Obviously there’s a bit of an issue in that Kane will almost always be first-choice up front when fully fit.

And if Spurs use just one centre-forward in their XI – as they are now – that means any reinforcements will probably have to play second fiddle to the England captain.

Gold, speaking on his , believes Brereton Diaz “would probably be okay” with being Kane’s deputy.

“Last year of his contract”

Admittedly, the football.london correspondent isn’t sure if Tottenham have actually made contact in the last few months.

But Gold wonders whether that gets resurrected this summer, suggesting the Blackburn ace ticks quite a few boxes for Spurs.

“Spurs have a little bit of interest in Blackburn’s Ben Brereton-Diaz,” he said.

“From what I understand, I don’t think there’s been any contact in the last few months. I wonder if that gets resurrected this summer.

“Last year of his contract, he is home grown. Leeds, West Ham, few La Liga clubs looking at him.

“We’re talking between £13million and £15million for him. He would probably be okay with being back-up.”

Brereton Diaz enjoyed a superb campaign last time out, scoring in 37 Championship outings for Rovers.

He is also an established Chile international, having played at the Copa America and registering four goals from 14 outings.
