Alan Stubbs comments on Celtic signing winger on a permanent basis

that Celtic have got to begin initial enquiries in a bid to sign Mo Elyounoussi on a permanent basis from Southampton, as he continues to shine in Glasgow on loan.

The 25-year-old has been in sensational form for Celtic during his first 10 appearances for Neil Lennon’s side, since joining the club on a season-long loan from Southampton. He has scored seven goals from the left wing, as well as laying on five assists.

that Southampton had spent £16million to land Norway international Elyounoussi from FC Basel, but the winger only managed to play 19 times for The Saints before dropping down the pecking order. He earns £60k-a-week ().

Whether Celtic are able to sign him on a permanent basis remains to be seen, given he cost the Premier League side a huge amount of money – a figure they will try to get back. But Stubbs has urged his old side to begin initial enquiries and contact.

“It might take a lot to sign him,” Stubbs said. “But it might not be a bad time to test the water before he carries on. If I’m Celtic, I’m certainly having initial conversations with his parent club, and seeing how they progress.”

TBR’s view – What would be a fair price for Elyounoussi?

If Celtic are looking to sign Elyounoussi on a permanent basis, it is fact that the Hoops will have to request the winger not only takes a pay cut – but that Southampton accept that they will have to make a loss on him.

The Hoops spent a club-record £9million to sign Odsonne Edouard and they may have to break that record again to keep Elyounoussi beyond the end of the season. A fee between £10million and £12million would be fair.

But a deal seems unlikely unless Celtic are willing to blow their transfer record and wage bill out of the water.
