Alan Smith says Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has to start performing for Arsenal

Former Arsenal striker, Alan Smith, believes th𝓰e Guꦡnners are relying on experienced striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to do the business for them against Tottenham.

The two 𒅌north London clubs meet this weekend as both Mikel Arteta and Nuno Santo look for what w﷽ould be huge wins. Spurs are struggling for form, while the Gunners look to make it three from three.

Dry Spell

Goals have been a problem, however, for Arsenal. Arteta’s side have scored just twice all season, with Aubameyang scoring a scruffy ܫone against Norwich and Martin Odegaard a fine free-kick last week.

And Smith, writing for ahead of the N꧙orth London Derby, believes Aubameyang has to start performing for the Gunners.

“It’s going to be interesting to see Arsenal’s attack against Tottenham’s defence, given those creative players and if Arsenal can get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang moving and making good runs and playing with confidence,” Smith .

“In the coming weeks, if those creative players just behind Aubameyang can build up a relationship with the centre forward, then you’re in business. But so much depends on Aubameyang. If it’s all falling down with him, if he’s not making the runs, if he’s not finishing his opportunities, then all that creativity comes to nothing.”

TBR’s View: Aubameyang has to show up for Arsenal at Tottenham

Big money. Big r✨eputation. But little output. That’s how you can sum up Aubameyang for Arsenal recently.

In simple terms, he just needs to do so much better. We all kꦏnow he ⛄can do it and score goals. Arsenal know it, too. But they need him to start producing and what bigger stage to do it than in the NLD.

As Smiꦗth says, if Aubameyang can start to fire, then suddenly Arsenal’s other attacking players get their pay-off too. This weekend, then, would be a timely return to form for the Gabon star.
