Alan Shearer thinks 25-year-old Aston Villa ace has given his side ‘even more of a goal threat’

Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi has been named in Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week.

The 25-year-old has scored three goals in as many games for the Villans, including a brace in the 3-0 win over West Brom, to take his total to four for the season.

El Ghazi began the season on the fringes of the Villa first team, not featuring in any of their opening six league games.

Four substitute appearances followed in the top flight before Dean Smith named the Dutchman in the starting XI against Burnley last week.

Though El Ghazi began brightly against the Clarets, he was wasteful, spurning numerous chances, but he made amends against the Baggies, converting at the first time of asking.

Indeed, he could’ve had a hat-trick were it not for a strong Sam Johnstone save, but his efforts nonetheless placed him in Shearer’s TOTW.

“Scored twice, and it could have been more,” the England legend wrote on the Premier League . “He has given his side even more of a goal threat in his recent appearances.”

TBR View:

Shearer is spot on – El Ghazi’s eagerness to have a go on goal is a great asset, and though it didn’t quite come off against Burnley, that could’ve been attributed to rustiness, while against West Brom, it worked well.

Things are going very well at Villa right now, and Smith being given a selection headache of the positive kind with El Ghazi in superb form is yet another great thing.
