Alan Shearer shares what he was told about Newcastle’s Eddie Howe and the England job before Thomas Tuchel appointment

Ever since Gareth Southgate resigned as England manager, many Newcastle United fans will have been concerned about losing Eddie Howe.

The Newcastle manager has long been linked with the job, Howe hasꦰ often been seen as the outstanding English candidate.

However, the FA have ultimately decided to go with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, deciding to try another foreign manager in charge of En🍎gl🐬and.

Therefore, Howe will definitely♌ be staying at Newcastle for now, at least in reference to the England gig.

There h𝐆ave recently been some 🎀reports of discontent between Howe and Paul Mitchell, but fans will hope that won’t be an issue moving forward.

England were never in contact with Eddie Howe before appointing Thomas Tuchel

That being said, when speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Alan Shearer shared some inte🦹resting insight into how close Howe was to the England job since Southgate resigned.

Shearer confessed that England never even spoke to the Newcastle manager, som♊ething he considered to be a ‘big surprise’.

Shearer shared: “It’s happened so quickly, hasn’t it? I mean we said and y♒ou sai🐽d the other day, there’s perhaps a reason why Lee Carsley was ruling himself out because practically that’s what he did.

“Mayಌbe you🦩 were right in saying that he knew something that we didn’t know.

“I really hope that they have spoken to English managers. I’m told they didn’t speak to Eddie Howe or they di๊dn’t sound him out at all. I’m reliably told, which is a big surprise for me considering he would be the outstanding English candidate.

🥀“It’s confirmed apparentlyᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ that they did reach out in the summer to Pep Guardiola. And also I understand that they spoke to Carlo Ancelotti.”

Eddie Howe will get his England chance one day

Although he wasn’t contacted this time around, it would be a surprise if 46-year-old Howe didn’t get another ꧋opportunity to manage his country in the future.

If the FA were to appoint an Englishman for the job, it’s hard to argue that there’s anyone better than Howe out th༺ere, even if Graham Potter may be considered too.

But the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank🔴 Lampard would be a cut below Howe, and it also seems too early to be considering someone like Michael Carrick.

Th𓂃at being said, Newcastle fans will be grateful that their manager is staying put, someone who would have probably cost the FA too much in compensation money to Newcastle 🍷in reality.

And with the FA’s decision now made, Howe made some interesting comments about Tuchel in the past.
