Alan Shearer sends five-word message to £25m star, reportedly eyed by Newcastle
Alan Shearer has sent a five-word Tweet to Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz after he matched a 26-year-old record previously held by Shearer on Wednesday. Newcastle, of course, have been linked with the Chile star.
Brereton-Diaz, 22, has taken his career to a whole new level of late. Choosing to switch his international allegiance to play for Chile, the Stoke-born ace has earned hero-like status in his adpoted nation – scoring three times in nine caps.
That international recognition has paid off at club level, too. This season, his form has blossomed – scoring his 20th goal of the Championship campaign against Barnsley in a 2-1 win. Blackburn have now won six in a row.
In scoring his 20th goal, in just 24 league games, Brereton-Diaz became the first Blackburn striker to score 20 goals before the turn of the year since Shearer did so in 1995-96 – and Shearer sent him a message on Twitter.
Newcastle desperately need Brereton-Diaz, amid Shearer Tweet
this month that Newcastle are looking at Brereton-Diaz after his stunning first half to the season. Indeed, Newcastle are not alone – with saying Leeds are keen on the £25million-rated ace.
Now, that need for a striker like Brereton-Diaz at Newcastle has been made all-the-more apparent – after Callum Wilson suffered an injury which is likely to keep him out until February. Shearer is a fan, Newcastle need him.
