Alan Shearer reacts to Japhet Tanganga red card in Spurs loss

Alan Shearer that he thought Japhet Tanganga was fortunate not to be sent off five minutes before the Spurs defender was shown a red card against Crystal Palace.

Tanganga was given a yellow card after a clear foul on Wilfried Zaha. Interestingly, Zaha was also cautioned.

It came with Zaha reacting angrily to be being brought down by Tanganga. It did seem however, that the Tottenham man had also lost his cool after Zaha confronted him.

Nevertheless, the referee decided that both men needed nothing more than a yellow.

Unfortunately, Tanganga’s afternoon did not last much longer. He slid in on Jordan Ayew in the middle of the pitch.

Despite seemingly attempting to pull out of the challenge, Tanganga could not stop himself making contact with the Palace forward.

Shearer went on to slam the 22-year-old for getting himself sent off, particularly as he felt that he should have gone slightly earlier.

“They both get yellow cards. I thought Tanganga was slightly fortunate because I thought he could have got a yellow card for the foul and also a yellow card for the reaction,” , regarding the clash with Zaha.

“Then, two minutes later, rash challenge on Ayew. This time, the referee gives him that other yellow card. He’s got no option, it’s a stupid challenge two minutes after you’ve been shown your yellow card.”

Tanganga red card leaves Nuno with problem as Spurs wait for centre-backs to return

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have been brought back down to earth in emphatic fashion after a brilliant start to the campaign.

They have lost their first league game. And their performance at Selhurst Park provided few occasions that they were about to make it four wins on the spin.

Tanganga started at centre-back with Nuno unable to use Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez after the international break.

And it appears that Romero and Sanchez will barely be back in time to face Chelsea next weekend.

So not having Tanganga will be a huge blow.
