Alan Shearer reacts to Ben Godfrey’s display in Everton win
Alan Shearer that Ben Godfrey was outstanding at the weekend as he named the Everton youngster in his Team of the Week.
Godfrey’s stock seems to be rising with every appearance he makes for the Toffees. The 22-year-old has taken little time to settle into his surroundings at Goodison Park.
And his latest superb display came on Saturday as Carlo Ancelotti’s men beat Arsenal 2-1. It was Everton’s third win on the spin. And once again, Godfrey was excellent after being selected at left-back.
And following the game, Shearer suggested that he was hugely impressed by the youngster’s display.
“Outstanding at left-back, making great tackles and some powerful forward runs,” , as he named him in his Team of the Week.
Godfrey has arguably already vindicated Everton’s decision to sign him in the summer. There seemed to be a lot of pressure on the defender upon his arrival.
, he cost the Toffees £25 million. Meanwhile, that he earns around £77,000-a-week on Merseyside.
Considering that he did not have the best year at Norwich last season, some may have doubted whether he would live up to expectations.
But Godfrey has silenced any doubters with his form so far this term. And it seems that he has the potential to get even better in the coming months and years.
