Alan Shearer makes prediction about James Maddison at Tottenham this season
James Maddison’s start to the season at Tottenham Hotspur has largely divided opinion thus far in N17, that was until his performance against Brentford.
With Ange Postecoglou often deploying a single-pivot for Tottenham in midfield this season, Maddison has been playing slightly deeper at times.
Whether it’s Yves Bissouma or Rodrigo Bentancur, both have needed a bit of help not to be overrun in the middle, and the English midfielder has taken responsibility.
That being said, Maddison’s attacking threat has then been curtailed in the early weeks of the season as a result, at a time when Spurs having been lacking a cutting-edge.
Thankfully, against Brentford on Saturday, Maddison was able to deliver a complete display – scoring, assisting and dropping deep – which is no easy feat.
James Maddison is starting to turn the tide at Tottenham this season
Alan Shearer took a moment to speak about Maddison’s performance on the ‘’ podcast after the win against Brentford.
Alongside Gary Lineker, Shearer was incredibly impressed with the midfielder’s all round display, one that was full of attacking threat.

And after his goal and assist, Shearer was convinced that Maddison was on course to deliver another stellar season.
He said: “He’s a good player, I don’t think you’d get many complaints, would you, from Spurs fans about him being a good player?
“We know what he’s capable of. He’s so intelligent and great on the ball and can make that final pass and he’ll have a good season.”
Dejan Kulusevski has been Spurs’ unsung hero
Of course, whilst dishing out praise to Tottenham players right now, it’s hard to ignore Dejan Kulusevski, who perhaps hasn’t had the credit he’s deserved.
Kulusevski looks determined to make a difference in every game he plays – wherever Postecoglou deploys him.
The winger, who has been playing akin to a number 10, has also been dropping deep in similar fashion to Maddison on occasion.
And if Tottenham continue to deliver this level of attacking performance, they can certainly still inspire a push for the top four.
That being said, Maddison and Destiny Udogie were blown away by one Tottenham teammate in their 3-1 victory last weekend.
