Alan Shearer makes interesting comment about Chelsea’s Cole Palmer after 2-1 win over Newcastle
After their victory against Newcastle United, Chelsea are currently in fifth place after nine games have been played – a strong start for Enzo Maresca.
The new Chelsea boss has done a remarkable job of calming the noise around Stamford Bridge, with many unsatisfied with the way in which the club have approached the transfer market of late.
It wasn’t a popular decision to part ways with Conor Gallagher for example, but winning football matches is an excellent way to get fans back on side.
Maresca’s Chelsea are gaining some momentum right now in their bid for a Champions League spot next season, and a lot of credit also has to Cole Palmer.

Cole Palmer celebrated for ‘sublime’ pass before Pedro Neto’s opening goal
Like Maresca, Palmer made his way to Chelsea after learning his trade at Manchester City.
In that respect, City’s loss has certainly been Chelsea’s gain, and Palmer was instrumental in dispatching Newcastle on Sunday.
And as impressive as his brilliant near-post goal was, Palmer mostly caught the eye for his pre-assist for Chelsea’s opener, which was scored by Nicolas Jackson.
Speaking on ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast, Alan Shearer was left in awe of the pass that set Pedro Neto through, saying it looked like Palmer was casually playing in the park.

Shearer said: “Well I mean, Palmer the difference isn’t he? Pass was like sublime. It was like to put it on a plate.
“Neto did incredibly well to get past Fabian Schar, and then he just put it on a plate for Jackson in the middle.
“I mean, terrible defending from Newcastle, [they] open them up with ease. But I mean, how many times are we going to see it?
“He (Palmer) just looks like he’s just playing in the park with his pals, he’s just an incredible player.
“Yeah, he got his goal as well, which again, you look at defensively from Newcastle, but he’s just a super talent isn’t he?”
Thomas Tuchel will be taking note of Cole Palmer’s form
Whilst Thomas Tuchel won’t be in charge for England’s fixtures in November, he’ll start his new job in January, the German may be keeping a close eye on Palmer’s form.
As of yet, Palmer hasn’t been given a sustained chance as England’s number 10, which is evidently his strongest role.
Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden have both been ahead of Palmer in that regard.
However, with Bellingham playing slightly deeper for Real Madrid this season and Foden in and out of the City team right now, perhaps Palmer is being lined up for a proper opportunity.
Foden hasn’t replicated his City form for England consistently, and many do want to see Palmer in his favoured role, even those not wearing blue in west London.
