Alan Shearer lauds Spurs pair Aurier and Son Heung-min after win

Alan Shearer that Serge Aurier’s first assist in Tottenham Hotspur’s latest win was superb, as he also named Son Heung-min in his Team of the Week.

Spurs made it two league wins in a row under Ryan Mason as they beat Sheffield United 4-0 on Sunday.

Gareth Bale stole most of the headlines following a stunning hat-trick – and he has been acknowledged by Shearer. But a number of his teammates also impressed against the Blades.

And one of those who really stepped up was Aurier. The right-back went into the game with a point to prove after giving away the crucial free-kick in the Carabao Cup final the week before.

But Aurier was outstanding in North London. He contributed two assists, including one delicious pass for Bale’s first goal.

And Shearer suggested that Aurier – who earns £70,000-a-week, – deserved a lot of credit for his contribution during the game.

“His ball over the top for Gareth Bale’s opening goal was superb, and he added another assist while also playing his part in a clean sheet,” .

Meanwhile, there was also a place in Shearer’s Team of the Week for Son. The South Korean rounded off the scoring late on.

“Showed his threat on the break to set up Bale’s second goal, and his clinical finishing ability with his long-range strike. He nearly scored another too,” he added.

TBR View: Reason for very cautious optimism about Mason’s tenure

Spurs fans would be forgiven for being cautiously optimistic. It is obvious that their squad contains an outrageous amount of talent.

It is too soon to say whether Mason is the right man to get the best out of their key players. Tottenham’s two league games have pitted them against two sides currently low on confidence.

But there is no question that he is off to a very promising start if he is indeed looking to stake a claim for the permanent position.
