Alan Shearer has praised Jordan Pickford after Everton beat Chelsea
Alan Shearer has praised Jordan Pickford, that the Everton goalkeeper was ‘extraordinary’ on Sunday against Chelsea.
The Toffees have put themselves on the cusp of safety in the fight to stay up. They are now only two points behind Leeds in the table. And they have a game in hand.

And Everton largely had Pickford to thank for ensuring that they took three points against the Blues at Goodison Park at the weekend. to keep the visitors at bay (Whoscored), including one outrageous stop where he scampered across his line.
The England international somehow managed to prevent the shot from crossing the line, despite finding himself predominantly in the goal.

Frank Lampard praised Pickford and labelled him world-class following the game. And Shearer has taken a similar stance, as he named the 28-year-old in his team of the week.
“A hero in goal. Extraordinary. Made a string of stunning stops to secure the vital win over Chelsea including a contender for save of the season,” .

Everton have the momentum in the battle to stay in the Premier League. They have taken seven points from their last four games. And their only loss came against Liverpool, on a day where the Toffees more than frustrated their Merseyside neighbours.
In that run, they have beaten Manchester United and Chelsea. Pickford has kept clean sheets in both of those games. And he has produced two outstanding performances.
United could have been a couple of goals clear in the early stages of their meeting. And obviously, Chelsea will feel that they missed an opportunity.
Certainly, if Pickford finds those kinds of displays in the final five games of the campaign, Everton may well have little problem ensuring that they stay up for another year.
