Alan Shearer and Micah Richards share Ezri Konsa verdicts as Aston Villa star shines in England’s Euro 2024 quarter-final win
Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa was in Euro 2024 action on Saturday as he impressed for England in their quarter-final clash against Switzerland.
The Villans star made his first major tournament start for the Three Lions as they vied for a place in the semi-finals of the competition.
Konsa played 78 minutes for England in Dusseldorf, eventually making way alongside Kieran Trippier and Kobbie Mainoo as Cole Palmer, Luke Shaw and Eberechi Eze came on.
The 26-year-old Aston Villa ace weighed in with seven clearances, two tackles and two blocks. He also boasted a passing accuracy of 97.9 percent.

Micah Richards and Alan Shearer hail Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa
BBC Sport pundits Micah Richards and Alan Shearer loved what they saw from Konsa during the game.
Richards said at half-time on BBC One: “Can you control your nerves? Can you do the basics very well?
“And he has done all of these things. I just think his overall game has been fantastic. He has been excellent, he really has.”
In the 56th minute, Konsa did enough to stop Breel Embolo from putting Switzerland in front following a dangerous cross, the Villa ace putting his man off a clean header.
“Brilliant from Ezri Konsa, he wasn’t being bullied,” Shearer said on after the Villans star’s key defensive contribution.
“He had to be strong and stand up, if he didn’t that would have been in the back of the net.”
What’s next for England at Euro 2024?
England beat Switzerland 5-3 on penalties after coming from behind to draw 1-1 after 90 minutes, with no further goals in extra time.
Breel Embolo opened the scoring in the 75th minute, but a Bukayo Saka rocket five minutes later put the Three Lions back in the game.
Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney and Trent Alexander-Arnold all converted their spot kicks.
Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji’s missed effort ensured that Alexander-Arnold’s strike put England into the semi-finals.
Gareth Southgate’s charges are next in action on Wednesday night, facing either Turkey or the Netherlands in Dortmund.
