Alan Shearer amazed by 27-year-old Tottenham player’s display against Nottingham Forest

Alan Shearer has lauded Guglielmo Vicario following his performance for Tottenham Hotspur in their win over Nottingham Forest, as he included the Italian in his team of the week.

Spurs kept their first clean sheet for almost two months on Friday, with goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski giving them the victory at the City Ground.

Guglielmo Vicario did not have a huge amount to do during the game. But he certainly shone when he was needed as Ange Postecoglou’s men saw out the contest.

Of course, the highlight of his performance came when he did brilliantly to deny Harry Toffolo. But even some of the Forest fans were applauding Vicario at one stage when he got the ball away from danger.

And with that, Alan Shearer has named the 27-year-old in his team of the week as Tottenham made it back to back victories in the Premier League.

“Produced some stunning saves and got a well-earned clean sheet,” he told the .

An inspired signing from Spurs

It is remarkable how easy Vicario has found the transition to playing in the Premier League. He would not have been a player that many of us would have known a lot about before the summer transfer window.

And he had huge gloves to fill. Hugo Lloris’ form had been in decline in the last couple of years. But he had still been a stalwart of the side for almost a decade. And he spent much of that time as the club captain.

But Vicario looks like an absolutely inspired signing on current evidence. He appears to perfectly suit the way Ange Postecoglou wants his team to play.

And it already feels as though a highlight reel of his best saves could already be put together – particularly following the stop he made from Toffolo before the weekend.
