Alan Hutton has advice for Rangers board regarding one player, after title win

Alan Hutton has posted on Instagram after Rangers secured their 55th Scottish Premiership title, and their first in 10 years following Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Dundee United – and he has advice for the Gers board, regarding one player.

Celtic needed to beat Dundee United on Sunday afternoon to delay Rangers’ league win for at least a week, after Rangers had comfortably beaten St. Mirren 3-0 at Ibrox on Saturday. But Celtic could not make the break through.

It saw Rangers hold aloft the title, prompting mass celebrations at Ibrox. It has been an excellent season, in which Rangers are unbeaten and have conceded just nine league goals in 32 games. It ended Celtic’s 10 in a row pursuit.

Hutton responded to the league win on Instagram after Celtic drew, and he underlined his delight to see his former side win the title. He also urged the board to hand goalkeeper Allan McGregor a new deal to stay at the club.

TBR’s view – An absolute no brainer to extend McGregor deal

He has been stunning for Rangers this season. The 39-year-old has conceded just 23 goals in 34 league and cup appearances this season – clocking up a whopping 20 clean sheets. He has been pivotal, on and off the pitch.

In terms of earning a new contract, there should be no doubt at Ibrox that McGregor is given the chance to extend his Rangers stay. His current deal expires at the end of the season, but Rangers need to extend that.

Hutton is right, the Rangers board must give him another year.
