Journalist: Ajax have bid less than £15m for Tottenham squad player
According to Duncan Castles, Ajax are keen on signing Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn this month but have only offered less than £15m so far for the Dutchman.
Speaking on the , Castles claimed that Ajax are indeed keen on signing Bergwijn this month but so far, have failed to make a reasonable offer. The respected journalist suggest Ajax’s bid so far is less than 18m Euros, which is around the £15m mark. Of course, with Spurs having paid for Bergwijn, this is a huge loss and around half what Daniel Levy ok’d in 2020.
Bergwijn has been on the fringes this season under Antonio Conte. Overall, he has never quite got going at Tottenham, despite showing the odd flash. Conte has still backed his man in recent weeks. The Italian labelled him a very good player, while Dele Alli has also said Bergwijn is the most skilful player at Spurs.

However, Bergwijn could be moved on to make room for new signings. Tottenham are keen on bringing in Adama Traore this month. Dejan Kulusevski of Juventus is another attacking player who has been mentioned, too.
Tottenham are awaiting news on their game with Arsenal this weekend. The Gunners have requested a postponement, much to the anger of Spurs.
TBR’s View: Bergwijn Should Leave But Tottenham Need Paying
It’s just bad business sense if Tottenham sell Bergwijn at such a loss. Yes, he’s one the fringes but he’s also a good player and valuable to the squad. They don’t want to be losing him for half price.
Daniel Levy, as we know, is a shrewd businessman. He’ll be hoping for the best deal possible here and you feel Ajax might have to commit to paying that little bit more if they want Bergwijn.
For Conte, he’ll just be hoping for some backing. Whether that is with or without Bergwijn being sold, remains to be seen.
