Agent says ‘it’s a pity’ his player chose to join Tottenham ahead of Champions League giants

Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin has enjoyed a decent start to life at Spurs following his January move to N17.

Ange Postecoglou is easing the 22-year-old defender into action at Tottenham, giving him several Premier League cameos off the bench.

Spurs famously beat Bayern Munich to Dragusin‘s signature, but they weren’t the only reigning champions in pursuit of the player.

Napoli were also hoping to sign the Romania international, and Dragusin’s agent has now revealed that his personal preference was for the player to join them.

Radio CRC recently interviewed Florin Manea, in quotes carried by . The agent said “it’s a pity” that Dragusin didn’t opt for a move to the south of Italy.

Manea also described Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis as a “very kind” individual and hopes to deal with him again in future.

“De Laurentiis was ready to close the deal, he was there with the offer, they were almost equal with the others, but it wasn’t a question of money,” said Manea.

“If it had been, he would have gone to Bayern, who made the bigger offer. Dragusin felt this was the way to go and decided to go to Tottenham.

“Mr De Laurentiis left a good impression on me, he was very kind. Maradona is my idol and Napoli is in my heart.

“I hope to do a deal with Napoli in the future. It wasn’t a bad offer from Napoli, it’s a pity it turned out this way, I’m a bit of a Napoli fan.”

Radu Dragusin wanted Tottenham ahead of Bayern Munich and Napoli

While Tottenham fans will probably not welcome Manea’s public comments about his personal preference and saying it’s a “pity” that he didn’t join Napoli, it shows how determined Dragusin was to join Spurs.

The 22-year-old believed in Tottenham so much that he turned down moves to two reigning champions in other leagues, both of whom are in the last 16 of the Champions League.

That says a lot about Spurs’ allure and direction they’re going in under Ange Postecoglou.
