Agent of Roberto Martinez comments on Celtic job

as saying that there is no chance the Belgium manager will be joining Celtic – just hours after Borussia Monchengladbach confirmed the appointment of Marco Rose for next season.

The former Everton and Wigan Athletic manager’s name had been touted as a possible long-term successor for Brendan Rodgers, who left the club in February to take over at Leicester City.

Martinez has excelled in his role as Belgium manager after a disappointing end to his Everton reign. He has been in the role as Belgium manager since 2016, and took his side to third place in last summer’s World Cup.

on Wednesday evening, Martinez becomes the second manager to rule himself out of the job – after his agent Jesse De Preter discussed his future.

“Roberto always seems to be on the shortlist as soon as there is a vacancy at a big club,” “But this is a false rumour about him going to Celtic.

“It seems to have come from the fact Roberto has a Scottish wife and he obviously has ties to the country.”

TBR’s view

Martinez would be an excellent appointment. But after leading Belgium to success in the World Cup, it is hardly likely that the prospect of Celtic would entice the Spaniard.

Realistically, Celtic fans have to consider that Rodgers was a one-off appointment. Bringing in someone of that calibre again is unrealistic, especially with the Hoops struggling to get past the round of 32 in the Europa League.

They may have to settle for Neil Lennon, again.
