Agent of Leeds player comments on star’s future, after mysterious Instagram post

It has been a tumultuous couple of days for Kiko Casilla. On Monday evening, the goalkeeper was left out of the squad that lost to West Ham and in the 24 hours after the match, he posted a cryptic message on Instagram. Now, his agent has commented.

Casilla, 34, has played back-up to Illan Meslier throughout the season. Other than three matches missed at the start of the season due to an ankle problem and then actually playing against Brighton, he had remained an unused sub for the other league games.

But on Monday, he was not even warming the bench. Elia Caprile was preferred and Marcelo Bielsa confirmed after the match that it was not down to an injury, but that he simply chose to include Caprile in the side over the Spain international.

The three-time Champions League winner posted a cryptic message on Instagram, stating that he would leave – but not until he had given everything. It was not made clear whether it was about Leeds, but it would be a surprising coincidence if not.

Well, Posting some quotes on their Instagram page, the agent of the £32,000-a-week star stated: “He has two more years at Leeds and is more than happy there.

“Like every player, he would like to play more. However, Illan is doing a very good job, and Kiko is always close to support him. I don’t know the exact meaning behind his posts, but I don’t believe it is about Leeds United.”

TBR’s view – Casilla surely needs to leave Leeds, now

Yes, he has a contract at Leeds until the summer of 2023 and yes, his agent states he is happy at Leeds. But surely even Casilla will realise that at the age of 34, he needs to leave Leeds and get the best out of his remaining years in professional football.

Regardless of what Leeds fans think about the ex-Real Madrid star, or whether he gets paid too much, for the player himself – he needs to leave for game time. Sitting on the bench for the remaining years of his career will become a regret in the future.
