Agent of Champions League star confirms Arsenal talks, move could be done this month

that he is “constant” talks with Arsenal, while the report claims a deal could be completed before January’s deadline.

Matviyenko, 23, has shone for Shakhtar since joining the club in the summer of 2017. He has clocked up 61 appearances in all competitions, and played every single minute of Shakhtar’s six group games – facing Manchester City twice.

The central defender has 26 caps for Ukraine and is considered one of the best players to have come out of Ukraine in recent years. The Gunners are said to be on the lookout for a centre-back, after failing to sign Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich.

Asked about potential interest from European heavyweights, Matviyenko’s agent Yuriy Danchenko told Zbirna that he is constant contact with Arsenal. The report claims Arsenal are looking to complete a deal before the end of the window.

“For the last time, my colleagues and I have been constantly in contact with representatives of the Arsenal, and have had meetings,” “The Gunners have already contacted Shakhtar, and we hope that these negotiations will succeed.”

TBR’s view – Arsenal need a defender, and Matviyenko can be the answer

His league form has been impeccable this season, near perfect. In the 14 league games he has played this season – of a possible 18 – Shakhtar have won all 14, and kept a whopping eight clean sheets. Indeed, Shakhtar have conceded just eight goals.

In the Champions League, Shakhtar picked up a respectable six points – of which Matviyenko was a crucial part of. Comfortable on the ball, excellent in the air and all the aspects of a future leader, Matviyenko can finally solve Arsenal’s defensive woes.
