After Ross Barkley announcement, Aston Villa now make contact to sign Euro 2024 star who silenced Harry Kane

Aston Villa have now made contact to sign another player from Italy after taking Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus.

The Villans have been busy since the start of July, not only announcing the aforementioned duo, but also confirming the signing of Ross Barkley from Luton.

Now, Aston Villa have made contact to sign another player as a hectic summer of recruitment under Monchi continues…

Aston Villa make contact to sign Jaka Bijol

A story from now claims that Aston Villa have made contact to sign Udinese No.29 Jaka Bijol.

The Slovenia international, who shone in the recent 0-0 against England, keeping Harry Kane of all strikers silent, has been the subject of an approach from Aston Villa as Monchi targets a new central defender.

Tutto Mercato Web add that Inter Milan, Lazio and Napoli are also keen to sign Bijol, although it is Aston Villa who are showing the most “concrete” interest.

The Slovenian was recently asked about his future, to which he opened the door to a potential exit when saying: “We’ll see. In football things change quickly, you never know what awaits you. As for the rest I can’t complain, I feel good at Udinese.”

Bijol made 24 Serie A appearances last season, helping Udinese finish 15th in Italy’s top-flight.

Tutto Mercato Web do not state exactly how much the 25-year-old would cost Aston Villa, although given the fact he has a contract until July 2027, Udinese are in a strong negotiating position.

Deal could accelerate soon

In our view, this deal is unlikely to progress further until Bijol returns from Euro 2024 – although that could well happen within days.

Slovenia take on Portugal in the Round of 16 tonight at 8pm in the United Kingdom, with Roberto Martinez’s side strong favourites to make the quarter-final.

Therefore, if the result turns out as expected, Bijol could be in a position to discuss terms with Aston Villa himself within days – should the Villans manage to agree a fee with Udinese in the meantime.
