Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Tottenham defender Ben Davies has returned to training at Hotspur Way this week.

The Welshman picked up a hamstring injury earlier this month and missed out on the trip to Old Trafford last time out.

Ben Davies was initially expected to be sidelined for around four to six weeks with the injury he picked up in the 1-0 win over Burnley.

But the 30-year-old looks set to return to action well ahead of schedule, with Postecoglou confirming the man is back in training already.

With Davies seemingly closing in on a swift return, Postecoglou suddenly has a wealth of options at centre-back.

The Aussie has been forced to play with two full-backs in the position on the odd occasion over the past couple of months. Indeed, Emerson Royal slotted in at centre-back alongside Davies, with the latter impressing in Micky van de Ven’s absence.

But Postecoglou welcomed back both Van de Ven and Cristian Romero against Manchester United last time out. Radu Dragusin also made his debut at Old Trafford after joining from Genoa.

The sudden wealth of options will be a welcome boost for Postecoglou off the back of a difficult past couple of months.

Despite the injuries, Spurs remain in a strong position in the Premier League as they make up the top five behind Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool and City.

With several key players returning, Spurs could be in for an exciting second half of the campaign in Postecoglou’s first full season in charge.
