After Hugo Lloris, Fabrizio Romano says £26m star wants to leave Tottenham now

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

Spurs are expected to be active in the winter window, with so many of their key players injured. All eyes will be on incomings, but there are a few who could leave Tottenham too. Hugo Lloris is on the verge of an exit and Hojbjerg could follow him out of the door now.

Fabrizio Romano says Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wants to leave Tottenham

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was always one of the first names on the Tottenham team sheet when Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte were at the helm.

The Dane has been a solid player for Spurs over the years. He has made his fair share of mistakes, but some of his performances early on in his career in North London were fantastic.

However, Hojbjerg is no longer the first-choice at Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou doesn’t fancy him and even young Pape Matar Sarr is ahead of him in the pecking order.

That’s why Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from Tottenham over the last few months, and Romano has now claimed that the midfielder wants to leave the club in January.

He said on : “Look, for Hojbjerg, we have to keep an eye on Italian clubs because Italian clubs are keeping a close eye on Hojbjerg. I’m hearing that Juventus, despite a lot of links, still see other players in that position as a priority more than Pierre Hojbjerg.

“Hojbjerg changed agents recently, in September, because he wants to leave, he wants to go to another club. But, for Tottenham, it has to be a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy. It has to be a guaranteed transfer or nothing.

“Juventus, yes they like the player, but it’s not a priority from what I’m hearing, at least now. Napoli appreciate Pierre Hojbjerg.”

Tottenham need a replacement

Tottenham won’t really mind selling Hojbjerg if the price is right, but Ange Postecoglou will have to bring in a replacement before letting the Dane leave.

Rodrigo Bentancur is out till February, while Yves Bissouma’s discipline has not been great. There are still question marks over Oliver Skipp’s quality at the top level too, which means it’s difficult to rely on him in the second half of the season.

Hojbjerg hasn’t been great for Tottenham recently, but he has the experience that some of Tottenham’s other midfielders lack.

So, if Tottenham let him leave next month, they must make sure to replace him. If they don’t, they will be very light in the middle of the park.
