After Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki, Sunderland are now optimistic about beating Leeds to another signing
TBR Football understand Sunderland are now attempting to frustrate Leeds further in the summer transfer window.
The Black Cats are showing plenty of ambition in the market after earning promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs last season.
Sunderland have smashed their club-record transfer fee to sign Habib Diarra – who Leeds wanted at Elland Road – in a £30m deal.
, although Sunderland have now agreed a £17.8m fee with Union Saint-Gilloise for the Belgian.
If that wasn’t enough, TBR Football understand Sunderland now want to pinch another target from Leeds as well in Matthis Abline.
Leeds want Matthis Abline, but Sunderland optimistic about striking deal
Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been informed that Sunderland are still working on a deal for the Nantes No.39 after seeing a £20m bid rejected.
We understand Leeds made an approach for Abline towards the end of last week, but are yet to firm up their interest with an offer like the Black Cats have.
Sources add that Sunderland remain in discussions and are expected to make a fresh bid for the French striker, who is open to a move to the Premier League.
Sunderland are optimistic about a deal after speaking to Abline’s representatives.
Abline is considered to be one of the most precocious strikers in France, with the 22-year-old scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in 36 appearances last season.
Leeds also set to miss out on Reinildo Mandava to Sunderland, and could lose out on Djordje Petrovic too
If Sunderland stay up at the expense of Leeds next season, many will surely look to this summer transfer window as a defining period.
TBR Football understand Leeds were also keen to sign Reinildo Mandava after his contract with Atletico Madrid expired, but Sunderland have wrapped up a deal for the Mozambique international.
Not only that, but Sunderland are now holding talks with Chelsea over a deal for Djordje Petrovic, who Leeds are interested in as Daniel Farke aims to find a replacement for Illan Meslier.
Bournemouth are also in discussions over the Serbian goalkeeper.
Both Sunderland and Leeds initially hoped to sign Marcin Bulka from OGC Nice – the Black Cats even had a £21.6m fee agreed – but Saudi Arabian outfit Neom are now set to land the Polish glovesman.
