Adrian Clarke says 24-year-old Arsenal star always delivers ‘8/10 performances’

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has been described by Adrian Clarke as the Gunners player who “holds this team together”.

Clarke, writing on , says the Arsenal star is proving to be “worth every penny spent on him”.

The Gunners broke the British transfer record last summer to bring Rice to the Emirates Stadium from West Ham.

Arsenal agreed a £105million deal to sign the England international, and so far, he has certainly lived up to his hefty outlay.

Clarke, who hosts The Breakdown on Arsenal’s channels, has written a piece on talkSPORT looking at the Gunners’ season so far.

With the international break once again bringing top-level club football to a halt, there is the opportunity to take stock of how each club has fared since August.

Clarke deemed Rice one of the brightest aspects of the Gunners so far this term.

“Delivering 8/10 performances without fuss, Arsenal’s record signing is proving to be worth every penny spent on him,” he wrote.

“Oozing assurance, his decision making has been immaculate, and his footballing IQ will be worth multiple points over a 38-game season.

“Rice holds this team together, so providing he stays fit the Gunners are going to be in with a chance against anyone.”

It says a lot that very few people are still speaking about how much Arsenal spent on Rice.

When a player joins for a big fee, it doesn’t take long for rival fans, pundits and so on to start mentioning the fee if the player isn’t performing superbly.

However, Rice has been pretty much flawless since joining Arsenal and, as such, the price tag isn’t being used against the Gunners.

At just 24 years of age, he can yet become much better, and it’ll be exciting to see at what level he and the Gunners will be at in the next few years.
