Adams suits Hasenhuttl’s high-octane Southampton style far better than Austin

Southampton want Birmingham City forward Che Adams to form part of their new-look attack,

They that the Saints have tabled a bid in the region of £8m for the Blues hotshot, but it has been turned away.

Birmingham are prepared for another bid from St Mary’s before Thursday’s transfer deadline and are aware of interest from elsewhere in the man who has netted 14 goals for Garry Monk’s so far this season.

They that fellow strugglers Fulham and Burnley as well as Midlands rivals Leicester City and Wolves are all on the case of Adams, creating the possibility of a bidding war in the coming week.

Meanwhile, that the Saints are willing to listen to offers for frontman Charlie Austin, after the Englishman fell out of favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Austin is more of a pure finisher, whereas Adams is an all-round forward, capable of running the channels and playing out wide and as a number 10 as well.

His energy is much more suited to Hasenhuttl’s high-tempo style, which demands for forwards to be flexible, energetic and adaptable and it is little surprise that switching Austin for a player in Adams’ mould is near the top of the Austrian’s to-do list before the window slams shut.
