Adam Lallana’s weekend injury blow proves Jurgen Klopp right to cut Liverpool ties

Liverpool took on Brighton and Hove Albion in a controversial game at the weekend which ended in controversy over VAR and manager Jurgen Klopp taking a pop at BT Sport.

The German was frustrated whilst discussing the injury withdrawal of James Milner, something he blamed on the pile-up of games, in particular having to play the early kick-off on a Saturday after playing in the Champions League on Wednesday.

But another injury during the same game justified a previous decision from the Liverpool boss.

The former England international joined the Seagulls in the summer after Liverpool decided not to offer him a new contract.

That was despite Klopp remaining a huge fan of Lallana’s, as he confirmed in the build-up to the weekend clash.

“We still miss him,” Klopp is quoted as telling the “But it is not easy to miss Adam Lallana because pretty much everyone at the club still has contact with him – not this week so much but he is a friend for life.”

But this latest injury setback just highlighted why Liverpool were right to move on from the experienced midfielder.

Whilst, undoubtedly, Klopp would have found a role for Lallana his continued injury record at Anfield would have made him an expensive deadweight.

With Curtis Jones emerging and Thiago Alcantara arriving, cutting Lallana in the summer made perfect sense for Liverpool. His injury truncated cameo at the weekend just goes to prove Liverpool were right to let him go.
