Adam Forshaw reacts to Jamie Shackleton display in Leeds win

Adam Forshaw labelled the display of Jamie Shackleton fantastic as the full-time whistle loomed during Leeds United’s victory over Watford on Saturday.

What’s the story?

Leeds secured their first Premier League win of the season this weekend. A Diego Llorente goal saw the Whites beat the Hornets at Elland Road.

It proved a day in which a number of Leeds players stepped up. Llorente and Liam Cooper were superb at the back.

Junior Firpo and Dan James meanwhile, produced arguably their best displays yet for the club.

But several others also shone. And one of those was unquestionably Shackleton at right-back.

The 21-year-old made more tackles than any other Leeds player (). Meanwhile, only Raphinha completed a greater number of dribbles than the academy graduate.

He dealt with Emmanuel Dennis down Watford’s left flank superbly. And as the game was about to enter stoppage-time, Forshaw suggested that he was incredibly impressed with the youngster.

“Shacks has been brilliant again today,” . “Stuck to his task, does everything right, keeps the ball, no thrills, fantastic.”

Shackleton threatening to enjoy breakout season at Leeds

Shackleton has been the one leading the pack for the young players throughout Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure. Of course, he made his senior debut in one of the boss’ first games in charge.

He has always been in and around the first-team fold without ever quite managing to cement himself in the team.

He has obviously had a bit of fortune this term, with Luke Ayling sustaining an injury.

But he is taking that chance with both hands. And the early signs are suggesting that he is threatening to make this year his breakout campaign.
