Adam Forshaw comments on what Jonathan Woodgate told him about Leeds

that Jonathan Woodgate convinced him that he was making thr right move to join Leeds United from Middlesbrough in January 2018.

Forshaw, 27, left Middlesbrough to join Leeds just under 18 months ago for £4.5million (). He was playing under Woodgate, who was a coach at the Riverside during his time with the Teesside club.

The former Brentford midfielder has since turned out 38 times for Leeds, with injuries preventing him from making more. He has played an important part in Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with 25 of those coming this season.

Leeds legend Woodgate, who was part of David O’Leary’s side that took the Premier League and Champions League by storm, told Forshaw before he left Boro that he was joining a “whopper of a club”.

“I’d actually been told by Jonathan Woodgate. He rang me when he knew I was coming,”

“I was at Middlesbrough with him and he said, ‘You’re signing for an absolute whopper of a club’ and for him to say that, someone who has played for Real Madrid, is massive.”

TBR’s view

Forshaw has certainly helped Leeds in their bid to end a 15-year wait for Premier League football. But he is certainly not first choice at the moment.

The Everton youth player is yet to recapture the form that saw him impress in the Premier League with Middlesbrough. Instead, Tyler Roberts and Matuesz Klich are starring in attacking midfield.

Forshaw is certainly strong back-up and his style of play is perfect for Bielsa. Whether he will remain a crucial part of the side if Leeds gain promotion, is a different question.
