‘Actually incredible’, ‘superb’: Some Liverpool fans in awe of £28k-a-week man’s display last night

A number of Liverpool fans have praised Joe Gomez for his impressive performance last night.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds took on Ajax in their Champions League Group D encounter in Amsterdam and picked up a much-needed 1-0 win.

After a fairly even first half, Liverpool took the lead on 35 minutes when Nicolas Tagliafico nocked the ball into his own net while trying to clear a Sadio Mane shot.

The Reds laboured in the second half but managed to keep Ajax at bay and held on for their first win in four matches.

With Virgil van Dijk set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines, Klopp opted for a centre-back pairing of Gomez and Fabinho.

While the Brazilian was especially outstanding on the night, Gomez also impressed, making several important headers and clearances from inside the area.

The £ ace grew in confidence as the game went on and looked solid, helping to allay fears over Van Dijk’s absence.
