‘Absurd’: Pep Guardiola’s former assistant says £69m Tottenham target is absolutely ‘incredible’

Antonio Silva is a reported target for Tottenham and has earned praise from Pep Guardiola’s trusted lieutenant Juanma Lillo.

Lillo wrote a hugely entertaining column for the , where he touched on all manner of things including the strength and quality of the players England and Portugal are able to leave out.

He picked out those two nations as ‘the two teams with the biggest number of elite players in an age group that will also give them good chances in the future’.

Silva has only of the World Cup, the 2-1 loss against South Korea where Fernando Santos made a host of changes with qualification for the knockout rounds top of the group already assured.

Lillo hails Silva

Benfica teenager Silva has certainly caught the eye of Lillo, who left Manchester City over the summer having been assistant to Guardiola.

He said: Look at the quality that England have in their squad, and even some of the guys who have been left out! “And then Portugal…

“The young centre-back from Benfica, Antonio Silva, is not even playing. Do you know how good this kid is? Incredible. He’s absurd.”

Last month, linked Spurs with a swoop for Silva as they look for a long-term solution on the left hand side of their backline.

That said, he is seemingly attracting admiring glances from across Europe, which could drive his price to a level Spurs cannot match.

Fabrizio Romano has it could cost a minimum of 80 million euros (£69 million) to get him in the future, although the fact he has not really been used at the World Cup yet may prevent his value absolutely exploding – but not for long.
