‘Absolutely phenomenal’: Ally McCoist utterly blown away by one Rangers player’s display tonight
Glasgow Rangers legend Ally McCoist has described Ibrox defender Calvin Bassey as “absolutely phenomenal” for his Europa League final display.
The 22-year-old was a “colossus” as he helped Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers keep Eintracht Frankfurt at bay for most of the game in Seville.
Bassey has played in all but one of Rangers’ Europa League games this season, missing only the group opener against Lyon.

The youngster quickly established himself as a first-team regular at Ibrox this term, playing as both a left-back and a centre-back.
And on Wednesday night, Bassey delivered arguably his finest performance of the season in the Europa League final.
He weighed in with numerous tackles, interceptions, clearances and blocks, mopping up danger time and time again.
Early in extra time, Bassey slipped to allow Rafael Borre to charge into the penalty area from the right.
However, the Rangers ace had the pace and power to chase down his man and make a superbly-timed lunging tackle.
That was just one of several examples of his great defending. And McCoist loved what he saw from the Light Blues man.
“Calvin Bassey has been absolutely phenomenal,” he said on BT Sport (via ). “He has been a colossus this evening.”
Rangers opened the scoring in the 57th minute through Joe Aribo. He made the most of a Djibril Sow slip at the back.
Frankfurt then equalised in the 70th minute through Rafael Borre, himself taking advantage of an opposition error.
The game went to penalties, and Aaron Ramsey saw his spot kick saved,
Meanwhile, the Bundesliga side netted all five of their spot kicks to win the competition.
