‘Absolutely outstanding’: Gary Lineker wowed by ‘very exciting’ Liverpool player tonight

Liverpool prodigy Harvey Elliott has been praised by Gary Lineker for his efforts in the Reds’ clash with Newcastle on Wednesday night.

The Reds, hosting the Magpies at Anfield, were looking to build on their 9-0 hammering of Bournemouth at the weekend.

However, things didn’t quite go to plan for Liverpool in the first half.

On 38 minutes, Sean Longstaff played a pass which broke the lines to play Alexander Isak in on goal.

The Newcastle summer signing duly hammered the ball into the roof of the Liverpool net to give the visitors the lead.

Liverpool dominated possession against the Magpies but had to go in at the break a goal down.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges eventually drew level on the hour mark.

Alisson rolled the ball out to Fabinho, who found the impressive Elliott, and he played in Mohamed Salah on the right.

The forward then cut the ball back for Roberto Firmino, who drove a low first-time shot into the back of the net.

Though Firmino got the goal, Lineker praised Elliott’s role in the build-up, as well as his overall display on the night.

Elliott was arguably the best Liverpool player on the night.

He worked hard, always looking to drive forward, constantly pressing the ball, and not giving up on any seemingly dead balls.

Liverpool struck the winner in the eighth minute of injury time, Fabio Carvalho making it 2-1 and sending Anfield into raptures.
