Liverpool beat Leicester City on penalties to qualify for the semi-final of the Carabao Cup last night.

The Reds were under immense pressure early on in the game. They were 2-0 down after 13 minutes and went into the break with the scoreline reading 3-1. It looked like Jamie Vardy would continue his party in the second half, but Klopp made three smart changes at half-time.

One of them was the introduction of Ibrahima Konate in place of young Billy Koumetio.

Vardy and co tried to penetrate just like they did in the first half. However, Konate’s presence made it absolutely impossible for them to get through on goal.

Liverpool v Leicester City: Ibrahima Konate gets a 8/10 rating

released their player ratings after the game at Anfield last night and Konate was the joint-highest rated player on the pitch.

They gave him an 8/10 rating and wrote: “Stepped in at centre-back and stood absolutely no nonsense from the Leicester strikers.”

That’s an accurate description of the 22-year-old’s performance, who is settling in really well after his big-money summer move from RB Leipzig.

Konate stats vs Leicester

Konate was only on the pitch for the second half and his performance was an impressive one.

The 22-year-old made two tackles, two interceptions and won five of his six attempted duels. He registered 29 successful passes, completed two long balls and maintained an overall passing accuracy of 81 per cent, which is not bad at all against a side like Leicester City. ()

Liverpool fans should be really happy with the way Konate is developing. He is already a top-quality centre-half, but a few years alongside Virgil van Dijk will make him twice as good a player as he is today.
