‘Absolutely mind-blowing’: Merson compares Liverpool 23-year-old to Manchester United legend

﷽Diogo Jota stole the show for Liverpool with his brace against Arsenal last night but his Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold deserves a lot of praise as well.
🍸The 23-year-old had a tough start to the game at the Emirates last night. Gabriel Martinelli caused him all sorts of problems in the first 15 minutes, but after Liverpool slowed the tempo down and took control, Alexander-Arnold showed what he’s got.
🐬The Englishman had a lot of joy in Arsenal’s final third. Kieran Tierney pushing ahead in attack opened up a lot of space for Trent and every time he got himself in a crossing position, he delivered a fantastic ball into the box.
🌄The pick of the night was Alexander-Arnold’s assist to Jota’s second goal. Nobody in the stadium saw that pass, but the Liverpool man did, picked the attacker out brilliantly and that sealed the game.
Paul Merson compares Trent Alexander-Arnold to David Beckham
ꦓSpeaking on right after the game, Paul Merson heaped praise on Alexander-Arnold. He even went on to compare the Liverpool defender’s passing to that of Manchester United legend David Beckham.
ไMerson said, as quoted by : “He (Alexander-Arnold) is phenomenal.
🐷“People say, ‘he can’t defend’. Why do you have to defend when you go forward like he does? To put up the figures and the assists that he gets is just mind-blowing, absolutely mind-blowing.
🐽“Some of the balls that he plays, the weight of pass – everything he picks out he composes himself, never panics. That ball was David Beckham. If you’d have just had a look at his feet there and nothing else, you’d of thought it was David Beckham.”

TBR View:
꧂Beckham is arguably the greatest crosser of the ball England has ever produced. His ability on set-pieces has remained unmatched as well, but in Alexander-Arnold, there may just be a new king in town.
☂The Liverpool defender, still only 23, is arguably the best crosser of the ball in the Premier League, if not in Europe. His tally of 15 assists in all competitions this season is, as Merson said, mind-blowing.
🅰The likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson usually take all the plaudits when Liverpool win, but without Alexander-Arnold, they wouldn’t be where they currently are in the table.
🌌It will be interesting to see how much better the Englishman can get. He’s still only 23 and is already world-class. If he keeps his head down and works hard, he could end up bending balls much better than Beckham ever did for club and country.
