‘Absolutely gutted’… Arsenal fans stunned by shock transfer decision the club has now made
Arsenal have got the ball rolling in the summer transfer window with the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.
The Spain international is expected to be the first of several signings Arsenal will make this summer, with new forwards deemed a high priority.
However, there have also been some departures, including one particularly surprising one which stunned the fanbase on Friday.

Arsenal fans admit they’re gutted over Takehiro Tomiyasu departure
Arsenal announced that Takehiro Tomiyasu has left the club, his contract being terminated by mutual agreement.
The Japan international, who made 84 appearances for Arsenal after signing from Bologna in 2021, still had a year left on his contract, with a further year’s option.
However, with Tomiyasu continuing to recover from a long-term knee injury, the decision has been made for him to start a new chapter elsewhere.
Arsenal fans took to social media to say they understand the decision, but nonetheless deemed it sad.
“Gutted for Tomiyasu, hope he can find fitness and enjoy football again,” one fan wrote on X.
Another said: “Tomiyasu is in the same bracket as Diaby for me. He should have been a nailed down starter and fan favourite. Gutted he’s leaving.”
The praise for Tomiyasu kept coming, with one supporter writing: “Gutted for Takehiro Tomiyasu, was a machine with no injuries.”
Another said: “He’s an absolute club hero and highly underrated. I am gutted that I won’t get to see him in an Arsenal shirt again.”
Another wrote: “Absolutely gutted for Tomiyasu, he’s an absolute sound defender and he’s being robbed of his career due to injury.
“Wishing him all the best for the future.”
Whether Arsenal could bring in a replacement for Takehiro Tomiyasu
Tomiyasu’s departure sees the Gunners free up a space in their squad, and when a first-team player of his calibre leaves, there’s always the opportunity of a replacement being sought.
However, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Arsenal are not in any rush to sign someone else at right-back.
The Gunners are understood to be happy with the strength in depth in that position, given Timber and Ben White are both fit now.
While Arsenal’s defence is fairly well stocked, their attack certainly needs reinforcing.
Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been the two centre-forwards most strongly linked to Arsenal as of late.
As well as signing a new striker, Arsenal are also in the market for a great winger who could cover for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
Arsenal are said to be pushing for Noni Madueke of Chelsea, and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has also been linked with Arsenal.
